Polypropylene is a material that offers a combination of outstanding physical, chemical, mechanical, thermal and electrical properties. Polypropylene is a “polyolefin” and is characterised by having a number of key similarities to polyethylene, (also a polyolefin). Often called Hippolon’ it is an extremely versatile and durable product.
Polypropylene is highly resistant to chemicals in general, particularly acids, alkalis and solvents. It has lower impact strength than polyethylene but greater tensile strength and a superior working temperature, able to “work” at temperatures up to 100 degrees C. Polypropylene is food grade, is thermoformable and weldable.
Uses / Applications
As with polyethylene, the applications for polypropylene are extremely varied. Slip sheets, food containers, wall liners, moulded automotive parts, ducting, tanks and many other industrial applications.
